Do You Know What You Want?

On November 28, 2021, I was reading Will Smith’s memoir, WILL. Meant to share this yesterday but forgot. When I tell you I took sooooo many notes. If you haven’t read it, it is so worth reading. Here’s an excerpt from my entry.

Shaun’s Journal Entry: November 28, 2021

“JL or James Lassiter asked Will these questions while trying to figure out what Will really wanted. Will had no real direction just wanted not to ever be broke again and to be able to have fun. 

Questions:

What is the dream? 

What are you trying to build?

What do you want?

Stephen Covey, in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, said there are only two human problems: (1) knowing what you want, but not knowing how to get it; and (2) not knowing what you want.”

Again, I loved this memoir!

I believe we must ask ourselves JL’s questions from time to time to see if our answers have changed. Is our dream still the same? What are we trying to build? What do we want? Even though I am now on the other side of 50, the core (which I believe is most important) of my answers remain the same. I know what I want.

For years, I used to dwell on what Steven Covey listed as the first problem—knowing what I wanted but not knowing how to get it. However, today, I don’t even think about how I’m going to get it anymore. God is finally the captain of my ship and I’m sitting back enjoying this ride called life. I trust Him to get me to wherever I belong. He knows best. Listen, life is so much better when we allow God to lead, and when we’re obedient.

Question:

Do you know what you want? Your core desires, not the superficial ones.

Obedience, That’s The Word

I know I write a lot about obedience, but y’all, our obedience to God is sooooo important—so very important.

Obedience gets you through the though times. Obedience brings blessings you weren’t expecting. Obedience keeps you protected. God knows and sees things you don’t. Listen, be obedient to whatever He asks of you. You may not understand what He’s asking, or feel the need to follow through, but do. Trust Him. He’s looking out for you!♥️

The Ride Goes On

This thing called life is very interesting and so unpredictable. There’s always something going on or some emotion we’re experiencing. We’re never just here. Even while meditating or sleeping, something is still happening. So, since we’re still alive, let’s make the most of this ride.♥️

I had to laugh when this thought came to mind because I do tend to over share. However, I don’t share everything. Laughing

Here’s what I learned while growing up, a lesson that was reinforced while I was in the military. We make our best moves when we’re silent. Silence and strategy matters. Now, this doesn’t mean I got something cooking.😏😄 I’m just saying everything doesn’t need to be shared.

On a serious note, though—which is something I learned from being too open—not every friendly person is your friend, and not everyone interested in what you’re doing has your best interests at heart. So it’s best to keep some things to yourself. Especially, the things that are dear and close to your heart.♥️

My Journey With God, No. 20

This morning when I heard, “This is bigger than you,” I thought it was meant for me to share as one of today’s posts. So I created a graphic for the message and shared it (see It’s Greater Than You).

Well, I just opened my journal and all I had written was “This is bigger than you.” When I tell you I got chills! Listen, I don’t know what God is doing, but whatever it is it’s bigger than me.
