A fellow blogger, Understand546, wrote about his open mic experience (My Open Mic Experience) that happened on June 24, 2018, my 45th birthday. I just had to see what I had written on that date and here it is. Enjoy!

Forever grateful for those who poured into my life. I would not be who I am today without them, without you.♥️

I am truly blessed.

This is #Year50

Friendly Reminder: Keep Going!

Here is a friendly reminder that you must keep going. Listen, you have come too far and been through too much to give up now. As my fav said a year ago, focus on one step at a time.

Gotta keep going!♥️

I don’t know about you but I can hear Mary Mary singing, “Can’t Give Up Now.”

Keep going!♥️

My Story Continues

Here are two more Facebook memories I wanted to share before this day ended. They are my annual reminders that where I am today is not where I am meant to stay. As long as I am breathing, there will always be more to my story.

Facebook Memory: December 4, 2019

Good Morning! Here’s today’s social media find. I’m in tears, y’all. This was three years ago during one of my lowest moments, and a few days before my car accident. Whew! It was posts like this that kept me going. When I couldn’t see my way, I would always find words of encouragement through social media. I’m so grateful I made it through those tough times. I’m here. I’m still standing. What was meant to break me, didn’t work.💃🏽

Blessed.
Humbled.
Grateful.

I entered 2020 without any expectations. I was tired of expecting things to happen only to be disappointed at the end of the year. This year I decided to allow God to lead. What I discovered is when He leads, AMAZING things happen!

I’m so grateful to be a contributing author in the Finally Free anthology. I’m so thankful for my Finally Free family. I have always believed in divine connections. I know God has placed me where I am at this specific moment in time, with this group of authors, for a specific purpose. For His purpose. He’s so intentional, y’all! It didn’t happen two or three years ago when I thought I was ready. It happened now, in the midst of a pandemic! HOW AWESOME!! He just amazes me! Y’all, I’m so thankful I allowed God to lead.

What a difference a year makes. My brother had just passed away in October 2019, and I was in a funk. I was disappointed, heartbroken, and felt hopeless. I really didn’t want to see or hear anything about expecting great things in the new year. Then, 2020 came and flipped everyone’s life upside down. By the time I was asked to do the anthology, I was just happy to feel normal again. Y’all, God is so good. He knew exactly what I needed to keep me going.

As I mentioned in my previous post, life never really happens as we envision it to; however, it always happens according to God’s plan and in our favor. This year I am without my mom. To be honest, everything feels like déjà vu. However, unlike four years ago, I am going into 2024 expecting great things to happen.

That’s all for now. Wishing you a good night.♥️

Focus On God

Always keep your focus on Him.

Several years ago, someone commented on one of my tweets and to this day every time I hear, “Focus on God,” I remember her words.

She said, “Don’t look to the right or to the left, focus on God.”

Today I encourage you to keep your eyes straight ahead and focused on God. Yes, stay focused on God.

Love you!♥️

You Are Already Equipped With What You Need

Facebook Memory: October 30, 2023

You CAN and WILL achieve everything you set out to do. Please do not allow where you currently are to discourage from even trying. God believes in you so why not believe in yourself.

Maybe your current situation doesn’t reflect what you envisioned so you feel a need to give up. Please don’t. Work through the uncomfortable moments. God would not have given you the dream if it couldn’t be achieved. You are already equipped to make it happen.♥️ ~ Shaun

Can’t stress this enough—You got this!

Still Standing

Facebook Memory: October 27, 2022

Smile. You’re still standing!

Yes.. After all you’ve been through, you are still standing. You survived!♥️

That’s right! YOU are still standing!

You have so much to live for.

Love you!♥️

Keep Going, Shaun

I got you, Baby Girl!

I owe it to my five year old self to become who I imagined I would and could be, plus more. I must keep going.♥️

Short story…

I was so proud of my afro! I wanted an afro so badly, but my hair was too long and too fine to stand up. So, I cried and cried until my mom gave in. Y’all, against everything she wanted to do knowing she would be scolded by older adults, she cut my hair. She cut my hair so I could have a fro. It was perfect… until I messed it up. Shaking my head

As every kid does on picture day, I played with my hair before picture time. I don’t know why they don’t take pictures first thing in the mornings. If you look very closely to the right of the picture, buried in my fro is a red flower that my mom had placed in my hair. It was hidden by the time I took my picture. Listen, you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t cute and picture ready. Baby, I was clean! Laughing. That meant looking good back in the 70s. Good memories.

Thanks for reading. I pray that you are or have become everything your five year old self imagined you could and would be. Have a blessed day!

Be Encouraged

I can hear William Becton singing –

Be encouraged no matter what's going on,
He'll make it all right,
But you gotta stay strong.

I know right now it's impossible to see,
But God is gonna work it out if you just believe.
Remember this one thing while you're going through,
If God delivered Daniel, He'll do the same for you.

Be encouraged no matter what's going on,
He'll make it all right,
But you gotta stay strong.

Know your labor is not in vain.♥️
Stay in prayer while waiting and listening for your next moves.

Y’all, politics is not my thing. I have never been interested in being involved in more than encouraging people to vote and showing my support by sharing information. Now I am doing things that are stretching me far beyond my comfort levels. I’m not sure what God is doing; however, I know from experience that whatever this is it’s preparing me for future endeavors. As Bishop Jakes says, you cannot have change without disruption, and boy has disruption come.

Here is what I have learned and am still learning – my job is to lean into God, allow Him to lead, move when He says move and be still when He says be still. AND I must do ALL of this while operating from a space of peace. Talk about challenging, but if He believes I am capable of doing it, then I can do it.
